Yesterday, my family went on a cave tour of Skyline Caverns in Front Royal, VA. It was fascinating all the way through, but my favorite part was stopping to see an underground fish pool: scientists had stocked it to learn if fish could live without sunlight. Though the fish needed artificial light to see with, they actually thrived! Interestingly enough, they couldn't reproduce and lost their color due to a lack in Vitamin D (which they would have otherwise received from sunlight). It took a while to adjust to seeing past the surface of the reflective water, but I finally saw one, then two swimming in and out of view. I kicked myself afterwards for not getting better photos once I realized they would swim by close enough to catch in one shot. I did manage, however, to get a "Loch Ness" picture--low-grade, I'll admit--of a single fish in the cave water and placed an edited photo here, adapted so the silhouette stands out.
